Disney World riders get a wet surprise as Jungle Cruise ride sinks into murky waters
Guests on Magic Kingdom’s Jungle Cruise ride at Walt Disney World got a little more wet than they expected when their boat sank into shallow “swamp” waters on Thursday.
Pictures of one of the boats taking on water started to pop up on social media around noon. A Facebook post from Kimberley German shows guests climbing up on railings and hanging on the outside of the boat.
Matthew Vince posted two pictures on Twitter of the boat taking on murky water. The first shows guests standing on benches and railings trying to not get their feet wet. In the second, a cast member wades around waist-deep water as the seats on the boats are almost fully submerged.
Disney said the boat took on some water, and the Reedy Creek Fire Department was called. All the riders were taken off the boat safely and the theme park is working with each guest to make sure they’re OK so they enjoy the rest of their day.
The ride is now reopened.
From 2 p.m. to 3:40 p.m., the Disney World app showed wait times steadily climbed from 35 minutes to 115 minutes for the Jungle Cruise ride. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train has the park’s longest wait time Thursday at 160 minutes.
