Washington, D.C.: Two for one
A new museum complex has just opened in downtown Washington showcasing a wide variety of art, history and culture through ancient textiles and a significant collection of maps and documents on the history of the nation’s capital. Two museums are sharing George Washington University’s $33 million, six-story complex: the 90-year-old Textile Museum and its collection of artifacts, along with the George Washington University Museum, which focuses on the capital city’s history. The opening came just months after the university acquired one of the nation’s oldest art museums, the Corcoran Gallery of Art.
