The 9-piece dining set has been recalled. At least 178 chairs have broken
If eight pieces of a nine-piece dining set are chairs, any problem with them counts as a big problem. That’s why San Diego-based Whalen recalled about 8,560 Bayside Furnishings Lawler nine-piece dining sets.
The succinct description of the problem from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice: “The dining chairs can break, posing a fall hazard.”
Call that an understatement, considering Whalen says it knows about 178 chairs breaking. That’s enough chairs for 22 full sets with two extras for pet pillows or piling newspapers.
This covers model No. CSC9PD-9-R1, which is printed on the Bayside Furnishings label underneath the chair’s seats. Costco was the exclusive seller of the made-in-Vietnam sets, which went for $1,000 to $1,200.
Whalen is eating the cost, offering only refunds. If Whalen doesn’t find you first, you can call the company at 833-205-0936, Monday through Friday, from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Eastern time.
