A Hallmark product gets recalled before the holidays as a fire hazard

A candle is a controlled fire, but certain frosted balsam jar candles by Hallmark combine the threat of an uncontrolled fire with the threat of being cut. That’s why Hallmark recalled 4,000 such candles Friday.

The exact problem, as stated in the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice: “When the candle is lit, the glass jar can break, posing fire and laceration hazards.”

Hallmark has heard of this happening six times, according to the notice, “resulting in fire damage to nearby items.”

This covers frosted balsam soy blend jar candles that are green, have three wicks and the image of a pine cone with snow on the jar.

Customers get not only a full refund when returning the candles to the store of purchase, but a $10 Hallmark Gold Crown gift card. Those with questions can call 800-425-5627 (800-HALLMARK), Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Eastern time.
