How young is too young for a nose job?
Q: What is the earliest that someone can undergo a rhinoplasty procedure?
A: Rhinoplasty is one of the most impactful procedures I perform and one of my favorites, because when it’s done properly and at the right time, it can be truly life-changing.
The earliest age someone can undergo rhinoplasty depends less on a specific number and more on physical development and emotional maturity. In young women, surgery can often be considered as early as age 13, although not common, as long as they have gone through puberty and nasal growth is essentially complete.
In young men, facial growth and maturity takes longer, which is why rhinoplasty is more commonly appropriate between ages 16 and 18.
Many younger patients struggle for years with insecurity related to how their nose looks. Today, that insecurity is often intensified by social media, constant photography and comparison with others. It’s not uncommon for patients to avoid being photographed or to feel uncomfortable in social settings. When rhinoplasty is performed thoughtfully, the improvement in confidence can be dramatic and long-lasting.
Because this surgery is so impactful, choosing the right surgeon is critical. Rhinoplasty should be done by someone who truly specializes in it. Ideally, the surgeon should be board-certified in facial plastic surgery or be a plastic surgeon with extensive experience focusing on rhinoplasty. You should be able to review before and after photos to understand the surgeon’s style and consistency, read online reviews to learn about patient experiences, and ask family or friends for recommendations. Personal referrals often provide invaluable insight.
Taking the time to choose the right surgeon and the right timing greatly increases the chances of a safe procedure and a result that enhances confidence for years to come.
