Susan G. Komen breast cancer walk returns. Here’s what to know
The annual Miami/Ft. Lauderdale MORE THAN PINK Walk returns Saturday to the Miami-Dade County Youth Fair and Exposition grounds, with thousands expected to join the fight against breast cancer.
This year’s event has a fundraising goal of $700,000 to support breast cancer research and resources, including Komen’s Patient Care Center and Center for Public Policy. So far, more than $400,000 has been raised; organizers expect 9,000 walkers.
Breast cancer impacts 1 in 8 women and 1 in 1,000 men over their lifetimes. In Florida, estimates call for 23,920 new diagnoses and 3,210 deaths in 2025, Komen officials say.
“The work Komen does for people with breast cancer, survivors and those with increased risk of breast cancer is not possible without the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale MORE THAN PINK Walk and the critical money we raise from our generous supporters,” said Gil Zepeda, development manager of Komen South Florida.
