Did you just get eyelash extensions? Here are three tips to take care of them
After investing time and money into getting eyelash extensions, one of the most common questions people often ask is, “How can I make my extensions last longer?”
These are my three top tips on what to do while you have eyelash extensions to make them last as long as possible.
Use an eyelash-safe cleanser
The first step is to buy an eyelash extension-safe cleanser such as Medature Purifying Gel Cleanser or CeraVe or Cetaphil gel cleansers. These cleansers are gentle on the skin, yet do not contain oil-based ingredients that could otherwise break down the glue that holds your extensions on.
Avoid these types of cleansers when choosing the best face wash for lash extensions:
▪ Cream cleansers
▪ Cold creams
▪ Cleansing oils
▪ Hydroxy acid or salicylic acid cleansers
If you are unsure about whether or not a particular cleanser is lash-safe, ask your lash technician or dermatologist.
Gently wash face with warm water
Avoid getting your lash extensions wet for the first 24 to 36 hours after getting them. After this period, you can use lukewarm water — not hot — to wash your face. Avoid vigorously scrubbing when cleansing. Gently remove eye makeup with an oil-free, lash-safe makeup remover.
Pat your face dry
When finished cleansing, pat your face dry with a clean towel and avoid vigorous rubbing. This can create unnecessary friction, which can break down the lash glue more quickly.
Avoid touching your lashes
Whenever possible, avoid touching or rubbing your lash extensions. The oils from your fingers and the rubbing motion can cause the glue to break down prematurely.
