When having your eyes done, here’s why you should have both eyelids done at same time
Q. I have bad bags under my eyes and I want to have my lower lids done. Most doctors say I have to do both my upper and lower lids. What are your thoughts?
A. When I first started practicing, people would ask me to do the upper lids or lower lids and I would. Months later, a patient would come back happy with what I did but complain about what I didn’t do. Now, when someone needs both the upper and lower eyelids, I recommend they do both.
Recovery for both surgeries is generally the same, although there is a little more bruising. In terms of recovery time, it’s generally the same for both parts of the eye. Within one week you can start reasonable normal activity, and expect nice results by two weeks with a final outcome of approximately one month. The eyes will peak between nine and 12 months.
I will show patients upper lid and lower lid post-op pictures, and will show pictures of patients who decided not to do both at the same time so they can see the difference.
