Families struggling to buy diapers for their little ones can get a set of free diapers Saturday at a South Florida drive-thru.

The “All for Moms” distribution is expected to help hundreds of families, according to Molina Healthcare of Florida, which has partnered with nonprofit Miami Diaper Bank for the event.

About one in three families struggle to afford diapers, which can cost an average of $80 a month, according to the National Diaper Bank Network, a nonprofit whose mission is to ensure that every child in the U.S. has access to clean diapers. Sometimes families have to cut back on food and childcare services to make sure they can give their child clean diapers, according to the network.

Saturday’s assistance will run from 9 a.m. to noon.

Moms and dads who want diapers will need to sign up online. The form asks for a variety of information, including which county you live in, your child’s age and diaper size, if your income was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and if you were referred to the Miami Diaper Bank by an agency.

People who sign up will be given the address of the drive-thru. Families will also be notified about future community diaper distributions.

How you can help

The National Diaper Bank Network says more than six million diapers are given annually to Florida families in need through 15 of its diaper bank members. The nonprofit says the banks help about 11,648 babies and toddlers a month in Florida. Miami Diaper Bank, which is a member of the national nonprofit, is also raising money for its “All For Moms” Mother’s Day campaign.

Miami Diaper Bank says donations made by April 30 will be matched 100%, “making your donation twice as impactful for moms who need help to get diapers for their baby.”

“A donation of just $100 can provide enough diapers for a child for over two months because of our exclusive access to wholesale discounted diapers,” Miami Diaper Bank’s website states. “For every donation made you will receive a Mother’s Day Virtual Card for you to honor the mom in your life this Mother’s Day.”
