26 of these Pilates balls suddenly burst. That’s why they’ve been recalled

When you’re sitting on, bending over or squeezing a Pilates ball, you don’t expect it to burst. That’s why Decathlon USA recalled its Domyos Swiss balls last week.

The exact problem, as stated in the U.S. Consumer Product Protection Commission recall notice: “The recalled exercise balls can unexpectedly burst, causing the user to fall to the floor, posing an injury hazard.”

Decathlon USA knows of this happening 26 times around the world, resulting in fractures, bruises or scratches in six incidents. None of those incidents, the recall notice says, happened in the United States.

This covers model Nos. 8529175, 8529176 and 8529177. Near the bases of the balls, you’ll find “Domyos,” the diameter (21.65 to 29.53 inches) and the weight (10.6 to 10.9 ounces).

Decathlon USA is offering refunds, but in the form of store credit. Call the company at 866-480-3565, Monday through Friday, noon to 7 p.m., Eastern time.
