There’s a potentially serious problem with the crab cakes. They’ve been recalled
Some 12-ounce packs of Johnson Sea Products Home Style Crab Cakes have been recalled because the packaging doesn’t tell you that they contain wheat or soy.
That’s not a problem for most people. For people who have a wheat allergy or a soy allergy, undeclared allergens can have life-changing (or life-ending) consequences.
“People who have allergies to wheat or soy run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the Johnson-written, FDA-posted recall notice says.
Johnson says an outdated sample label was used on the erroneous packaging.
The recalled frozen crab cakes were distributed in Florida and Alabama from April 28 through May 11. The master cases have a Julian date of “212220.”
If you have wheat or soy allergies or serve food to someone with wheat or soy allergies, return the packs of crab cakes to the store of purchase for a full refund. Those with questions can call Johnson Sea Products at 251-824-2693.
