Curry powder recalled after the FDA finds salmonella in the finished product
A recall of Radhuni Curry Powder was announced Thursday after the FDA found salmonella in a random sample of the product.
The recall notice, written by manufacturer New Hoque and Sons and posted by the FDA, says this covers 400g plastic bottles with an expiration date of 01/02/2022. Those still on the shelves got yanked May 14. New Hoque stopped production of the powder while investigating the source of the salmonella.
Customers who have the powder, sold mainly in New York City’s Bronx and Queens boroughs, especially Queens’ Jamaica and Jackson Heights areas, should return it to the place of purchase for a refund. Anyone with questions can call 718-391-0992, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 a.m., Eastern time.
According to the CDC, salmonella hits 1.35 million Americans each year with diarrhea, stomachaches and fever. About 26,500 are hit with bloody diarrhea so badly, they have to be hospitalized, and 420 people are killed. Children under 5 and senior citizens are the most vulnerable to salmonella’s worst effects.
