The chocolates got wrapped in the wrong packaging. Life-threatening problems can result

One lot of Lindt Excellence 85% Cocoa chocolate bars got recalled from retailers nationwide because they’re not what they say they are and that can be a major food allergy problem.

Lindt & Sprüngli’s FDA-posted announcement says what actually got wrapped in the recalled lot were Lindt Excellence Dark Caramel Sea Salt chocolate bars. The Cocoa bars don’t have milk or soy. The Sea Salt bars do. So, someone with a milk allergy or soy allergy would read the packaging and think what’s inside is safe for them.

“Consumers who have a food allergy or have any sensitivity to milk or soy should not consume the product as it could result in a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction,” the recall notice states.

Lindt says several consumers alerted the company to the problem.

This covers lot No. L5539 with a best by date of 11-30-2020. Though the notice tells consumers only that can return the bars to Lindt for a voucher for a replacement product, the bars can also be returned to the store of purchase for a refund.

Anyone with questions can reach Lindt & Sprüngli by emailing LindtUS-ContactUs@lindt.com or calling 877-695-4638, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., Eastern time.
