Nearly 12,000 Banquet frozen food products recalled. A labeling screw-up could be bad
A total of 11,781 packages of Banquet Mega Sandwiches Pepperoni Stuffed Pizza have been recalled for a food allergy issue caused by a packaging problem.
The packages might contain Meatball Stuffed Pizza Sandwiches. They have the allergen soy. Because the Pepperoni Stuffed Pizza sandwiches don’t, soy isn’t listed among the ingredients. That’s no problem if you don’t have a soy allergy. That’s a major, potentially life-threatening problem if you have a soy allergy or are feeding someone with a soy allergy.
Recalled packages have lot code No. 5659915510 and a best by date of May/29/2020 or lot code No. 5659918410 with a best by date of JUN/27/2020. They went to retail locations nationwide.
Consumer complaints alerted the manufacturer, Astrochef of Rockwall, Texas, to the issue. Those without food allergy issues can chow down happily. Those with soy allergies should return the packages to the stores of purchase for a full refund.
