Sushi, salads, spring rolls sold at Trader Joe’s and other chains recalled for listeria
Fuji Food Products recalled ready-to-eat sushi, salads and spring rolls that went to 31 states and 10 chains after the FDA found listeria in Fuji’s Brockton, Massachusetts, facility.
“The company has ceased production and distribution of their products in this facility as FDA and the company continue their investigation as to what caused this problem,” declared the company-written, FDA-posted recall notice. “Fuji Food Products has never before recalled any of its products.”
This recall yanked sushi, spring rolls and salad sold under the Okami and Trader Joe’s brands in plastic trays with clear lids at Trader Joe’s; 7-Eleven; Walgreens; Food Lion; Hannaford; Giant Eagle; Porkys; Bozzutos; Supreme Lobster; and Superior Foods.
The possibly contaminated food went to Washington, D.C.; Florida; North Carolina; South Carolina; Georgia; Missouri; Mississippi; Pennsylvania; Kentucky; Illinois; Alabama; Connecticut; Delaware; Indiana; Iowa; Kansas; Maine; Maryland; Massachusetts; Michigan; Minnesota; Nebraska; New Hampshire; New Jersey; New York; Ohio; Rhode Island; Tennessee; Vermont; Virginia; West Virginia; and Wisconsin.

Listeria strikes 1,600 Americans each year, bringing fever, headaches, stiffness, nausea, stomachaches and diarrhea. It kills about 250. The elderly, children under 5 and those with damaged immune systems are most vulnerable to its worse effects. It can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.
