Long Phung Foods recalled seven kinds of Vietnamese style pork products this week after the USDA found a link between listeria at a Long Phung Foods plant and listeria in four people with listeriosis.

The USDA-written recall notice says when the USDA’s Food Safety Inspection Service, the CDC and local public health agencies investigated that clump of illnesses, testing showed the samples from Long Phung Foods M13561 plant “were closely related genetically, to Listeria monocytogenes from ill people.”

So, the pork patty products produced in that plant from May 21 through Nov. 16 are being recalled. All of the recalled products have “EST. 13561” on the USDA inspection mark. They were shipped for sale nationwide.

Listeriosis hits about 1,600 people in the United States each year, bringing fever, muscle aches, headaches, stiffness, poor balance and, sometimes, diarrhea. The most vulnerable groups are the elderly, those under 5 years of age and pregnant women. Listeria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.

Anyone with the following products should throw them out or return them to store for a refund. Those with questions can call Monica Nguyen at Long Pung Food at 713-263-1944.
