Why they’re in the Food 50: Co-founders Tim Petrillo (president), Peter Boulukos (executive chef) and Alan Hooper (construction development manager) continually refine their restaurant concepts to give people enjoyable dining experiences coupled with craveable food at good prices. Based in Fort Lauderdale, The Restaurant People recently poured more than $1 million into a top-to-bottom renovation of YOLO and O Lounge, their 6-year-old restaurant and nightclub on Las Olas Boulevard. The group’s latest effort, Fork & Balls (that’s for meatballs), also on Las Olas, has drawn a steady stream of locals and tourists since opening last summer.
Wine & Food Festival: On Friday, Boulukos and celebrity chef Amanda Freitag will host a dinner at S3, The Restaurant People’s oceanfront spot at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, as part of the South Beach Wine & Food Festival. It’s the first time the festival has included an event in Broward County; there’s no doubt why organizers trusted The Restaurant People to pull it off.
