Man hit on North University Drive early Friday morning

A man stepping over a guardrail, tripped and fell into North University Drive in the early morning Friday and was hit by a car, police said.

The accident occurred at 4:22 a.m. in the 1400 block of North University Drive, Pembroke Pines police said.

According to police, Bentley Johnson was attempting to cross University Drive on foot and not at a crosswalk. As he stepped over the guardrail on the east side of the road, he became caught and as he tried to free himself, he fell into the northbound lane of North University Drive and into the path of a black Honda.

Johnson was knocked unconscious and sustained several broken bones. He was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital by Fire Rescue and regained consciousness but remains in serious condition.
