Two Coral Gables women bilked investors out of $1 million over the past seven years as part of a real estate Ponzi scheme, Miami-Dade police said.
Odalis Freixa, 48, of the 900 block of Obispo Avenue and Marisela Gamez, 49 of the 900 block of Venecia Avenue, are charged with grand theft in connection with the scam.
Freixa, author of a book called The American Dream It’s Not Forgotten, masterminded the elaborate Ponzi scheme, preying on mostly friends she has known for many years, police said.
Over the course of seven years, she and her sister, Gamez, bilked victims by promising to help them with foreclosures and loan modifications, police said. They used “false contracts” and “delay tactics” to lie to victims about properties they were trying to sell. Freixa used several companies, FL Home Holdings LLC, FL Home Loans, LLC and The Hero Foundation, Inc.
