If you’re anything like me, you’re amazed at the amount of crazy drivers caught on camera. Whether it’s a hit and run, a road rage incident gone bad or many other potentially dangerous situations, having your own dash cam can make a world of difference. This is especially true if you go to court after one of these situations. Thankfully, having a dash cam can protect you (if you’re not at fault, of course) and they are not too hard on the wallet. Because of this, I’ve rounded up 10 of the top-rated dash cams on Amazon that can help save you if you’re in an accident.

Methodology

To decide which dash cams made the list, they must have a minimum of a 4-star rating on Amazon with at least 100 reviews. I’m also looking at what reviewers are saying and using the Fakespot review analysis for further clarity.

Our Top-Rated Dash Cams to Protect You in an Accident

Best OverallWitisco D3: For a clearer view, you’ll want a setup with both front and rear-facing cameras. The Witisco D3 provides this, as well as night vision, parking surveillance, and seamless loop recording. It also includes a 64 GB SD card and can integrate to Android or iOS via wifi so you can live preview and download videos. Many reviews praise the D3 for its dual camera system and easy setup.

Best Rearview Mirror Dash CamWolfbox G840S: If you want to replace your rearview mirror with a camera setup, the G840S is one of the best options. It will take a bit more installation versus a traditional dash-mounted cam, but the setup is much more stealthy if you do it this way. The screen is a 4K touchscreen with two cameras that can record front and rear views at the same time and display them on-screen. We love the GPS tracking because it’s just another piece of evidence you can use to help you win a case. Once you leave your car, the G840S also has 24-hour parking monitor that will record at a low-frame rate for continuance surveillance.

Best Customer ServiceRove R2-4K: The R2-4K is a windshield mounted cam that is packed with features including 360 degree view, night video built-in GPS, G-sensor, parking monitors and more. One feature that I love is the automatic over-the-air updates using the Rove app. With many dash cams being made from overseas brands, customer service is not always the best. Thankfully, Rove’s customer service is US-based out of Chicago.

Best Brand Reputation Garmin Dash Cam Min 3: With many of the dash cams listed here being relatively unknown brands, I needed to include an option from the well-known brand Garmin. The Dash Cam Min 3 can only record 1080p video but offers a wide 140-degree field of view that works well in both bright and low light. The addition of Garmin’s Clarity polarizer lens helps reduce windshield glare so you aren’t missing any details. Voice controls let you start, stop and save recordings to the Garmin app with a wifi connection.

Best Budget Dash CamE-Yeeger Mini Dash Cam: If you need a simple front-facing dash cam that has most popular features, get the mini wifi dash cam from E-Yeeger. Like some of the more expensive options, you get night vision, a wide angle lens, loop recording and app connectivity via wifi. The camera only records at 1440p but for the money, it’s hard to beat this dash cam.

Reviewer Favorite Redtiger F7NP: Another great dash cam with front and rear view capability is the F7NP. Like many other options on my list, you get 4K recording, wide-angle lenses, excellent night vision and wifi/app functionality. However, with over 14,000 reviews and 4.5 stars, it’s one of the most highly rated and reviewed dash cams on Amazon. On top of that, the F7NP also comes with an 18-month satisfaction guarantee.

Budget Runner UpEcomoment S70: For the money, Ecomoment’s S70 has a lot to offer. You’ll get the usual front and rear cameras, night vision, G-sensor to detect shakes/collisions and loop recordings. There’s also a 24-hour parking monitor but it requires some additional hardware. Ecomoment also backs the S70 with a 12-month warranty for added peace of mind. Many reviews love how small the camera is and the quality of the recording.

Best Premium Dash CamViofo A229 Plus: While many of the options offer the same features, it’s all about the details. In the case of the Viofo A229 Plus, you’re getting twin 1440p cameras that can record at 60 fps. The A229 has excellent hands-free voice control and ultra-precise GPS that uses four different satellite positioning systems. It can also connect via wifi to the Viofo app to access footage, take photos and download content to your phone. The 24-hour parking mode can record at a low frame rate during a detected event but that requires additional hardware to keep the device powered.

Easy Install – Ovaman K600 4K: With its front-facing 4K camera and rear 1080p, you’ll be sure to get all the details you need with the K600 by Ovaman. Its 3.59-inch display is easy to read when you’re going through the user-friendly interface. Wide-angle views, night vision, loop recording, G-sensor and parking surveillance are all features you would expect to get in the K600. Also, the GPS records add another level of detail that you might need in a court case. With that in mind, many reviewers praise the installation process, with setup generally taking less than ten minutes.

Best Mini Option Avylet A1: While the A1 only offers front recording and monitoring, it’s also one of the smallest. However, the front camera packs a 1440p resolution with a 170° wide angle lens, which should be sufficient to see license plates and other smaller details. You can connect via the Avylet app to adjust settings, perform updates, view live feeds, and playback footage, all without a subscription. Because the A1 is a mini dash cam, it also comes with a mini price.

Why Do You Need a Dash Cam?

  • Evidence in accidents: A dash cam could provide clear video evidence of what happened in an accident, help prove fault and protect you against false claims.
  • Prevent insurance fraud: There are scammers who stage accidents to make fraudulent insurance claims. Having a dash cam can help you avoid being a victim.
  • Protect against hit-and-runs: If you’re involved in a hit-and-run, a dash cam can capture the criminal’s license plate and provide important details to the police and insurance.
  • Monitor your vehicle while parked: Many dash cams have parking mode and can record vandalism or break-ins.
  • Capture unexpected events: From road rage incidents to meteor showers, a dash cam can capture surprising moments you might want to keep or share.
  • Help with disputes: If you’re pulled over or are involved in a disagreement on the road, having a recording can clarify the situation.
  • Social media: You could use dash cams to build a social media following on YouTube, TikTok, Instagram or another social media platform.
  • Uber/Lyft drivers: As a ride-share worker, you’re putting your life on the line every time you work. Protect yourself against dangerous or disruptive passengers with a dash cam
  • Improve driving habits: Reviewing your footage can help you become a better driver and identify bad driving habits you may not be aware of.
Are Dash Cams Worth it?

Because dash cams are relatively affordable and can help you in the event of an accident, insurance fraud, or many other dangerous situations on the road, they are worth it.

What is the downside of a dashcam?

There are generally no downsides to adding a dash cam to your vehicle, other than cost and time to install. However, in the case of an emergency, accident or other dangerous situation, having a dash cam may help protect you.
