Are you an artist in Miami-Dade? Applications are open for a grant that could help you fund one of your projects.

Here’s what to know:

Grants: The Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation and Miami Foundation are awarding more than $3.5 million to local arts organizations through two-year grants that range from $100,000 to $250,000. Applications opened on Tuesday, and winners will be announced in the fall.

Reaction: “Art is a powerful tool – it allows artists to not only communicate personal emotions and ideas, but also inspire entire communities,” Pérez said in statement. “The importance of this dynamic cannot be understated, especially as our city and region go through tremendous change.”

Projects: The program is looking for projects that focus on three main areas: artist fellowships and residencies, arts education and arts access. Previous winners include the Community Justice Project, which expanded its social justice-focused artist-in-residence program, and the Diaspora Vibe Cultural Arts Incubator, which expanded its artist-in-residence program for emerging artists from the Latin and Caribbean diasporas.

Background: Since the program started four years ago, the foundation has invested more than $6.3 million in 30 organizations, allowing these groups to reach more than 400,000 community members.
