A 1997 portrait by artist Julian Schnabel of his muse and ex-wife, the actress Olatz Schnabel, is being donated to NSU Museum of Art. Olatz Schnabel has promised the well-known painting, which has appeared in several monographs, as a gift; it will be shown with four other Schnabel paintings she will loan to the museum for exhibition from March 12-Nov. 1. The gift follows the museum’s recent show Café Dolly: Picabia, Schnabel, Willumsen, which featured Julian Schnabel’s figurative paintings with those of French artist Francis Picabia and Danish artist J.F. Willumsen.

The work fits with the museum’s plan for acquiring works from the post-World War II European avant-garde and its connection with subsequent generations. A value for the donation was not released, but one of his abstract works sold recently for $184,000 at a sale conducted by the Phillips auction house.
