Critic’s Pick: Storytelling tapestries of McArthur Binion
WHAT: Kavi Gupta Gallery.
The Chicago-based gallery is always a reliable stop to see cutting-edge work. This year, the remarkable large, semi-abstract canvases of McArthur Binion are featured. These gridded paintings partially disguise the text at the foundation, revealing bits and pieces of the artist’s life, from his birth certificate to old address book pages. Binion was born in Mississippi in 1946, lived in Detroit and New York and has made Chicago his permanent home. The canvases resemble storytelling tapestries.
WHERE: Booth E15, Art Basel Miami Beach Fair, Miami Beach Convention Center.
