See Which Couples Have Made Their Red Carpet Debut at the Met Gala

The Met Gala may be known as fashion's biggest night, but it has also become one of the most important events of the year for celebrities looking to make their relationships red carpet-official.

Alex Rodriguez has made somewhat of a habit out of confirming his relationship status at the Met. The former baseball slugger walked the 2016 red carpet with his then-girlfriend Anne Wojcicki, which marked their first public appearance together. Just one year later, Rodriguez and the 23andMe founder had called it quits, but he was back at the gala for yet another debut - this time with Jennifer Lopez.

After sparking split rumors three years after their Met Gala debut, Lopez and Rodriguez announced their decision to call it quits. Lopez went on to reunite with ex-fiancé Ben Affleck and the pair attended the Met Gala together in 2021. In April 2022, they announced they were engaged again nearly two decades after their initial split. They tied the knot in July 2022, but divorced two years later.

Another couple that used the fashionable night to confirm their romance was Riverdale's Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart. During the 2018 "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" gala, the costars addressed dating rumors with their red carpet debut. The former couple dated on and off for three years before pulling the plug on their relationship in May 2020.

Robert Pattinson and FKA Twigs

The rapper's colorful Christoper Kane gown may not have been on-theme for the "China: Through the Looking Glass" gala, but it certainly looked like it belonged in a museum. The Twilight actor, meanwhile, opted for an unconventional neckpiece on the red carpet in 2015. But even a shared penchant for fab fashion couldn't save this pair - they ended their engagement in 2017.
