See Which Couples Have Made Their Red Carpet Debut at the Met Gala
The Met Gala may be known as fashion's biggest night, but it has also become one of the most important events of the year for celebrities looking to make their relationships red carpet-official.
Alex Rodriguez has made somewhat of a habit out of confirming his relationship status at the Met. The former baseball slugger walked the 2016 red carpet with his then-girlfriend Anne Wojcicki, which marked their first public appearance together. Just one year later, Rodriguez and the 23andMe founder had called it quits, but he was back at the gala for yet another debut - this time with Jennifer Lopez.
After sparking split rumors three years after their Met Gala debut, Lopez and Rodriguez announced their decision to call it quits. Lopez went on to reunite with ex-fiancé Ben Affleck and the pair attended the Met Gala together in 2021. In April 2022, they announced they were engaged again nearly two decades after their initial split. They tied the knot in July 2022, but divorced two years later.
Another couple that used the fashionable night to confirm their romance was Riverdale's Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart. During the 2018 "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" gala, the costars addressed dating rumors with their red carpet debut. The former couple dated on and off for three years before pulling the plug on their relationship in May 2020.
Scroll down for some of the most high-profile couples who made their romantic debut at the Met Gala:
Dua Lipa and Callum Turner
The couple, who first sparked romance rumors together in 2024, looked loved up as they walked the red carpet together at the 2025 Met Gala. Lipa rocked a black Chanel dress while Turner donned a black double-breasted suit with a white shirt.
Travis Scott and Kylie Jenner
After welcoming baby Stormi to the world in February 2018, the lovebirds made their relationship status red carpet-official in May with coordinating all-black-everything "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination"-themed ensembles. After welcoming son Aire in 2022, Us confirmed in January 2023 that the off-and-on duo split after spending the holidays apart.
Shawn Mendes and Hailey Baldwin
Before the model married Justin Bieber in September 2018, she and the "Stitches" singer seemed to confirm they were dating in their Tommy Hilfiger looks.
Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart
The Riverdale costars finally put the relationship-status rumors to rest when they walked the red carpet together at the "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination" gala in 2018. They called it quits two years later.
David Foster and Katharine McPhee
The musical power couple, who welcomed their son, Rennie, in February 2021, hit the red carpet together for the first time at the Met Gala in 2018.
Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra
The married couple, who welcomed daughter Malti Marie in January 2022, weren't dating yet when they met for the first time at the Met Gala. Jonas and Chopra were both dressed by Ralph Lauren for the "Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art Of The In-Between"-themed event in 2017.
Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez
They may not have fully embraced the "Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garcons: Art Of The In-Between" theme, but the famous exes color coordinated in shades of blue. Since their split, Lopez moved on with and married her ex Ben Affleck.
Selena Gomez and The Weeknd
In 2017, the "Back to You" singer was all about the flower power in her Coach slip dress, while her then-beau kept things classic in a black tux. They called it quits later that year.
Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid
The on-again-off-again couple was most certainly "on" at the "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology"-themed event in 2016, where they walked the red carpet for the first time together. The model embraced the futuristic theme in a glittery Tommy Hilfiger gown, while her then-BF tried opted for robotic-inspired arm-wear.
The twosome, who have since split, welcomed daughter Khai in September 2020.
Alex Rodriguez and Anne Wojcicki
Before his romance with Lopez, the former baseball player made things red carpet-official with Wojcicki at the "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology" gala. They went their separate ways in early 2017.
Robert Pattinson and FKA Twigs
The rapper's colorful Christoper Kane gown may not have been on-theme for the "China: Through the Looking Glass" gala, but it certainly looked like it belonged in a museum. The Twilight actor, meanwhile, opted for an unconventional neckpiece on the red carpet in 2015. But even a shared penchant for fab fashion couldn't save this pair - they ended their engagement in 2017.
Sarah Silverman and Michael Sheen
The longtime couple split in 2018, but they made things red carpet official at the "Charles James: Beyond Fashion"-themed fundraiser four years prior.
