As people settle into homes to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19, the appetite for something other than home cooking doesn’t abate and the thin profit margin for independent restaurants doesn’t thicken.

Here are a few deals (because a whole lot of folks will be economically stretched or struggling during this). Email dneal@miamiherald.com if you’d like your business to be added to the list:

UberEats

In the United States and Canada, the food delivery arm of Uber Technologies won’t charge delivery fees if you order from an independent restaurant. Also, the company is using email and the app to encourage patronizing independent restaurants.

On the restaurant end, participating restaurants can choose to get its money daily instead of weekly, as is the norm.

UberEats also pledged over 300,000 free meals for healthcare workers and other relief workers.
