Amernet String Quartet will explore Jewish life through music

This week’s music news centers on five Jewish Museum concerts by the Amernet String Quartet and a pair of jazz concerts in Broward County.

▪ The Amernet String Quartet is leading the five-part concert series “Journey Through Sound: Exploring Jewish Life Through Music,” a collaboration of the Florida International University School of Music and the Jewish Museum of Florida-FIU. The series begins at 7 p.m. Thursday with the concert “In Commemoration of Kristallnacht.” The other concerts are “Klassically Klezmer” on Dec. 9, “Musica Sefarad” Jan. 12, “Weinberg, Forgotten Genius” Feb. 23 and “Music of the Shoah” on March 9. Admission is $10 for museum members, $18 for non-members, free for FIU students (the Feb. 23 concert is free for everyone). ▪ A pair of jazz concerts liven up the week in music in Broward County. Singer Tierney Sutton and the Shelly Berg Trio perform “Gershwin, Gershwin, Gershwin!” at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Amaturo Theater at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, 201 SW Fifth Ave., Fort Lauderdale.
