The celebration that is Festival Miami is on the horizon (Oct. 16-Nov. 7), but there are a couple of other events this week to tide music lovers over.
▪ The Borodin Quartet celebrates its 70th anniversary season with a concert of Russian chamber music at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Coral Gables Congregational Church, 3010 De Soto Blvd., Coral Gables. On the program are Borodin’s String Quartet No. 2, Shostakovich’s String Quartet No. 8 and Tchiakovsky’s String Quartet No. 2. Tickets cost $35. Call 305-372-2975 or visit www.miamichambermusic.org.
▪ Cesar Jofre and his ECOS ensemble will perform “An Evening of Tropical Melodies” at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at Barry University’s Brockway Memorial Library, 10021 NE Second Ave., Miami Shores. Admission is free. Call 305-899-4051 for information.
