From the music world, here’s news of the Jazz Roots Series finale’s headliner, the kickoff concert by Miami Symphony Orchestra, a countertenor’s concert and a “multimedia fusion musical” built around tango.
▪ Natalie Cole will headline the finale concert of Larry Rosen’s 2015-16 Jazz Roots series in the Knight Concert Hall at Miami’s Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts. The nine-time Grammy Award winner will be joined by the Grammy-winning Christian McBride Trio for the show at 8 p.m. April 8.
The series begins Nov. 6 with The Movie Music of Spike Lee and Terence Blanchard, featuring the Terence Blanchard Quintet, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Maysa, Lizz Wright and the Frost School of Music Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra. Kenny G performs a holiday show Dec. 4, followed by the Jan. 15 Salsa Summit featuring the Eddie Palmieri Salsa Orchestra and the Pete Escovedo Orchestra featuring Sheila E. and Juan Escovedo. Patti Labelle with guest Ashleigh Smith performs Feb. 5, and Frank Sinatra Jr. sings his father’s music in a multimedia centennial celebration March 11.

▪ The Miami Symphony Orchestra, under music director-conductor Eduardo Marturet, begins its 2015-16 season at 6 p.m. Oct. 4 with a concert at the Arsht Center’s Knight Concert Hall, 1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami. ▪ TANGObsession, a “multimedia fusion musical” by Humberto Fortuna, will play the Aventura Arts & Cultural Center Oct. 3-4. Starring Fortuna, Noelia Guerrero and Martín Cardoso, along with violinist Crismary Garcia, the show features a tango orchestra performing tangos from the 1930s to the 1960s.
