Miami’s Arsht Center welcomes a pair of flamenco festivals

Coming up on the South Florida dance scene, a pair of flamenco festivals is headed to Miami’s Arsht Center, and a tango show will play Miami Beach’s Colony Theatre.

FLAMENCO FESTIVALS

Miami’s Adrienne Arsht Center will be home to a pair of flamenco festivals, with the first celebrating the art form’s singing stars, the second highlighted by a tribute to Cuban legend Beny Moré.

Siempre Flamenco presents its 10th Festival de Cante Flamenco at the Arsht’s Carnival Studio Theater Sept. 4-6. Singer La Susi (Encarnacion Amador) makes her Miami debut in a program that features Jose Mendez, Ismael de la Rosa, Paco Fernandez, Sonia Olla, Paco Fonta and Celia Fonta. Performances are 8 p.m. Friday, 3 and 8 p.m. Saturday, 7 p.m. Sunday, and tickets are $48. Call 305-949-6722 or visit arshtcenter.org.

In the spring, Flamenco Festival Miami 2016 will bring six shows to the Arsht Center over two weekends. The tribute to Moré and Manolo Caracol, an Arsht Center 10@10 anniversary commission titled Oh Vida!, features Grammy winner Gonzalo Rubalcaba and Spanish vocalist Esperanza Fernández. It will premiere in the Knight Concert Hall in March .

Also part of the festival are a concert by Vicente Amigo on March 2, a March 3 program starring Farruquito (Juan Manuel Fernandez Montoya) called Improvisao, and performances by the Ballet Flamenco Andalucía in the Ziff Ballet Opera House March 9-10, Compañía Rocío Molina in Bosque ardora March 11, and Compañía Manuel Liñán in Nómada March 13.

Six-show packages for Flamenco Festival Miami are $190 to $580; three-show packages are $85-$295. They go on sale Sept. 12, with individual tickets available in November.

TANGO SHOW

Tango with the Scent of a Woman, a show featuring the Carla Algeri Quintet from Buenos Aires, will play Miami Beach’s Colony Theatre for shows at 8 p.m. Sept. 4-5. Bandoneon player and company leader Carla Algeri will perform along with dancers Claudio Villagra, Helena Fernandez and others, celebrating Argentina’s sensual dance-and-music art form.
