Here’s a look at the new show in Miami about Cuban comedy legend Álvarez Guedes

Beloved Cuban comedy legend Guillermo Álvarez Guedes has made a comeback in Miami’s Tropical Park. A new production called “Muerto de Risa El Último Show de Álvarez Guedes” gives audiences a chance to experience the comedy of one of the exile’s most popular humorists, who died in 2013. Álvarez Guedes was best known for his raunchy language as he translated the Cuban exile experience with humor. His musings and storytelling spread across Latin America and the Caribbean through his comedy recordings and stand up shows.

The new show features Cuban actor Ariel Texido, who bears a resemblance to a younger Alvarez Guedes, and is in Spanish with few Spanglish bits that longtime fans will remember. The show takes place in a pop-up venue on the north end of the park that is set up to feel like the kind of late-night cabaret Alvarez Guedes would have performed in during his heyday.

The show debuted on Tuesday and is running through May 31. Take a look at opening night.
