Kristin Chenoweth will make her Broward Center debut next season
There’s news for theater fans about two shows — a Tony winner in concert and a touring production about one of the great singer-songwriters — that will play the Broward Center for the Performing Arts next season.
▪ Tony Award winner Kristin Chenoweth, who originated the role of Glinda in Wicked and recently co-hosted the Tony Awards with Alan Cumming, will appear in concert with a 12-piece orchestra in January at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. Currently on Broadway in On the Twentieth Century, Chenoweth won her Tony for You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and an Emmy for her role in the ABC series Pushing Up Daisies.
She’ll make her Broward Center debut at 8 p.m. Jan. 14 in the center’s Au-Rene Theater. Tickets, priced from $30 to $125, go on sale July 10. The Broward Center is at 201 SW Fifth Ave., Fort Lauderdale. For information, call 954-462-0222 or visit browardcenter.org.
▪ Jessie Mueller won the 2014 Tony Award as best actress in a musical for her portrayal of singer-songwriter Carole King in Beautiful — The Carole King Musical. The show begins a national tour in September, one that will bring it to the Broward Center for the Performing Arts May 10-22, 2016, and the producers didn’t have to look far to find their star: Mueller’s sister, Abby Mueller, will play King on the road.
The show details King’s early career writing hit songs with her former husband Gerry Goffin and her eventual emergence as a solo star, and it’s loaded with such hits as I Feel the Earth Move, So Far Away, It’s Too Late and Will You Love Me Tomorrow. It’s part of the 2015-2016 Broadway in Fort Lauderdale lineup, currently selling subscriptions for $199 to $579. For information, call 800-764-0700 or visit broadwayinfortlauderdale.com.
