Celebrating its 30th anniversary, Ballet Flamenco La Rosa will present the world premiere of El Padre (The Father), a flamenco ballet the company’s artistic director, Ilisa Rosal. Based on the play by August Strindberg, tells the story of a man manipulated by his wife, who tries to have him committed so she can gain control of their fortune and their daughter.
Rosal will perform in the piece, which has music and lyrics by Antonio Gabarri and Nieves Diaz. Eloy Aguilar plays the Father, Spanish artist Carmela Greco his scheming wife. Swedish artist Josefine Chiachiero is among the guest artists in a production featuring nine dancers and five musicians.
El Padre will be performed at 8 p.m. May 23-24 as part of the Miami Dance Festival. The production is at the Miami Dade-County Auditorium, 2901 W. Flagler St., Miami. Tickets are $23-$43. For information, call 305-899-7730 or visit www.panmiami.org or www.balletflamencolarosa.com.
