That society-in-microcosm, the book club, is played for laughs in Karen Zacarías’ The Book Club Play. Staged by Carbonell Award winner David Arisco, the play features a stellar South Florida cast of Carbonell nominees and winners: Barbara Sloan, Niki Fridh, Paul Tei, Stephen G. Anthony, Lela Elam and Michael McKeever.

Anyone can save money by going to a preview performance at 8 p.m. May 13-14, when you’ll pay $35 for a ticket (vs. the usual $45 for a week night show). But the theater is offering deals throughout the run for groups of 10 or more — a particularly sweet deal for book clubs. That preview rate for groups is just $28 per person. The ticket price for 8 p.m. evening performances for groups is $31 Wednesday-Thursday, $43 for Friday, $50 for Saturday and $35 for the 2 p.m. Sunday matinee (full-priced tickets are $45-$53, depending on the performance). Standard group orders usually have a handling fee, but that’s waived for this show.

The Actors’ Playhouse production of The Book Club Play will run May 13-June 7 in the upstairs Balcony Theatre at the Miracle Theatre, 280 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables. For information, call 305-444-9293 and ask for group sales or visit www.actorsplayhouse.org.
