City Theatre reveals its ‘Summer Shorts’ plays, actors, directors
City Theatre’s annual Summer Shorts Festival is headed for the Carnival Studio Theater at the Arsht Center’s Ziff Ballet Opera House June 4-28, and now we know the plays, actors and directors that will be featured in the company’s 20th anniversary lineup.
Four of the nine plays are world premieres, the others regional premieres. The world premieres are Bedtime by the still-mysterious Jane Martin, the commissioned play Mrs. Evelyn Foxy & Her Low Orbit Anxiety by Steve Yockey, Let’s Get Physical by Kelly Younger and Human Resources by R. Eric Thomas. Southeastern premieres are Risen from the Dough by France-Luce Benson, Flare by Edith Freni, Cougar by Holly Harms, Mandate by Younger and The Anthropology Section by Patricia Cotter.
In this year’s rep company are Elizabeth Dimon, Tom Wahl, Karen Stephens, Bechir Sylvain, Chastity Hart and Michael Uribe. Producing artistic director John Manzelli will direct plays along with Margaret M. Ledford, Paul Tei and Sylvain.
After opening June 4, the festival’s regular performances are 7:30 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, 4 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $35-$45. The Arsht is at 1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami. Call 305-949-6722 or visit www.arshtcenter.org.
