The 39th annual Carbonell Awards, South Florida’s highest theater honor, will be presented at 7:30 p.m. March 30 at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, and the winners are a mystery until then. But the recipients of three special awards from the organization have already been announced.
Scott Shiller, who will leave his job as executive vice president of Miami’s Arsht Center in May to become president and CEO of the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, will receive the George Abbott Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Arts.
Actress, director and Spotlight on the Arts host Iris Acker will get the Howard Kleinberg Award for her work contributing to the health and development of the arts in the region.
And The Naked Stage cofounders Katherine Amadeo and Antonio Amadeo will receive the Ruth Foreman Award for their annual artistic fundraiser The 24-Hour Theatre Project.
