‘Kinky Boots,’ ‘Cabaret,’ ‘Phantom’ headed to Arsht Center
A reimagining of The Phantom of the Opera, the Tony Award-winning Kinky Boots and an eclectic trio of musicals will play Miami’s Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in 2015-2016 during the 10th anniversary Broadway in Miami series.
The season kicks off Dec. 8-13 with Kinky Boots, the Cyndi Lauper-Harvey Fierstein musical about a failing British shoe factory that finds a future in footwear for drag divas (that show will also circle back to South Florida for a March 1-13, 2016, run at the Broward Center in Fort Lauderdale). Next up is a Dec. 29-Jan. 3 production of the beloved Richard Rodgers-Oscar Hammerstein II musical The Sound of Music directed by Tony winner Jack O’Brien.
Motown the Musical, with its greatest-hits score and a book by Motown founder Berry Gordy Jr., plays the Arsht Feb. 2-7. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s romantic, lavish The Phantom of the Opera makes its Arsht Center debut Feb. 24-March 6. The season winds up April 12-17, 2016, with the Roundabout Theatre’s acclaimed Broadway revival of Cabaret, the Tony-winning musical by John Kander, Fred Ebb and Joe Masteroff.
Subscriptions to the five-show lineup are $160 to $595. The Broadway series plays the center’s Ziff Ballet Opera House, 1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami. For information, call 305-949-6722 or visit www.arshtcenter.org.
