The renowned Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square is on a world tour. The next stop? Sunrise, Florida.

The 400-voice choir, formerly known as the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, will travel to Florida and Georgia for two public concerts and one private performance in early September as part of its four-year tour.

For the only Florida performance on the tour, the choir will be joined by Golden Globe, Oscar, Grammy winner, and star of Disney’s “Encanto,” Adassa, as well as Alex Melecio, a popular Mexican vocalist and finalist on the television show “Tengo Talento, Mucho Talento.” Audiences may recognize the Afro-Latina vocalist Adassa, who is a Miami native, from the famed Disney song “We Don’t Talk about Bruno.”

The concert on Sept. 7 at Amerant Bank Arena will be bilingual, featuring music in Spanish and English. In Georgia, the choir will perform with the Morehouse College Glee Club and Spelman College Glee Club.

“When these famed groups perform together, the music is magnificent, and the message is of peace, harmony and shared values,” said choir president, Michael O. Leavitt.

Based in Salt Lake City, Utah at the headquarters of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the choir is made up of hundreds of church members, all of whom are volunteer singers ages 25-60. The choir practices and performs weekly, showcasing a wide range of vocal styles, from hymns to folk songs, classics to show tunes, among others.

Under the direction of Choir Music Director, Mack Wilberg, and Assistant Music Director, Ryan Murphy, the upcoming concert will include something for everyone. From classical to contemporary music, the performance aims to resonate with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

For over 100 years, the Tabernacle Choir has been performing in worldwide venues including World’s Fairs, acclaimed concert halls, presidential inaugurations as well as on television broadcasts, and streaming platforms such as Spotify and YouTube.

“Our goal is to magnify the Choir’s impact throughout the world by helping people feel God’s love for His children,” said Leavitt.

The choir may be best known for its weekly radio and TV program, “Music & the Spoken Word,” which first aired in 1929 and is the world’s longest-running continuous network broadcast. The choir is sometimes called “America’s Choir,” after U.S. President Ronald Reagan dubbed the Tabernacle Choir this name in 1981 when the choir performed at his inauguration.

The Florida concert is free to the public, but tickets are required. If tickets sell out, you can stream the performances live on YouTube.

After stopping in Florida, the Tabernacle Choir will be in Atlanta, performing at Morehouse College on Sept. 9 and at State Farm Arena Sept. 11.
