Miami gym owner gives fitness tips to get the bikini body you want

For many kids, school’s out for summer. You know what means, people: more hours logged at the beach. Is your body ready to be in a swimsuit for weeks on end? If the answer to the question is “Oh dear, no,” you know what to do. Get with the program.

That means eating better and —truth! — working out. We spoke to Avidan Edelsberg, who just opened the Fitbox Method Boutique Studio Gym in the Arts District of Miami, inside the Bay Parc Condominium.

His main goal was to create a unique fitness experience and lifestyle workout making non-contact boxing fun. Fitbox combines circuit training through cardio boxing and resistance training with high intensity interval training that sculpts the body – torching fat and building lean muscle mass.

What is your preworkout routine?

Stretching is key but warm up before you do that. You don't want to stretch out a cold body — it’s like trying to bend a frozen rubber band. Also drink ample water beforehand, not not just during it, you will feel more hydrated and more ready to move.

Can you give us some of your best workout tips to burn fat?

A combination of exercise works wel in order to burn fat as you maintain or build lean muscle. We offer classes in boxing combined with resistance training. So you’re burning calories and toning. You have to get your heart rate up, then let it come back to normal. The process of the heart rate normalizing will burn calories on its own.

How can a slacker/couch potato get motivated?

Have fun! Make working out a lifestyle. Find something you like doing that is interactive. That’s how you can be excited and not dread it. Also try to take a few minutes to meditate a little after you’re done exercising. You will feel amazing. A natural high.

What’s the fastest way to get that summer beach body we all covet?

Lose the junk food, especially carbs. Eating healthily and watching your caloric intake are key.

Which celebrities do you think are in the best shape?

Obviously, fitness models. Why? Because they get paid for it and their entire routine revolves around keeping a toned figure. Victoria’s Secret models Adriana Lima and Kelly Gale both look great. I also think Scarlett Johansson appears healthy.
