Orange is the New Black watchers will be pleased to know that one of the Netflix show’s stars will be in town Thursday. Diane Guerrero’s appearance at 8 p.m. at Books & Books Coral Gables is to promote her book, In the Country We Love: My Family Divided (Holt).

In her memoir, the 29-year-old New Jersey-born, Boston-raised actress recounts how when she was 14, she came home from school to find her parents had been detained by immigration officers and eventually deported.

It was “the worst day of my life,” Guerrero told The Washington Post.

“I realized from then on that life was going to be very difficult. However, my parents taught me to be resilient and resourceful; therefore, I knew I was going to fight for my place in the world.

Guerrero was taken in by relatives and eventually put herself through college and acting classes. She is also currently an activist and an ambassador for citizenship and naturalization for President Barack Obama.
