Antonio Banderas is moving away from movies and getting into fashion.
The actor, director and producer was named the new honorary president of Miami Fashion Week, an annual event for industry insiders, slated for June 2016.
“With his creative talent, his connections and his charisma he will give a new push to Miami Fashion Week,” said Julio Iranzo, MFW’s president.
In a statement, Banderas said that he decided to come aboard because Miami is experiencing “strong growth in all areas.”
The 33 star is staying busy tending to the craft. People reports he’s taking college classes in bespoke tailoring at Central Saint Martins London art school, the same place fashion stalwarts Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney and John Galliano attended.
“We are learning patterns, sketching, researching, everything,” he told the magazine. “It’s very artistic in a way.”
He is launching a menswear label, Antonio Banderas Design — in association with Danish label BESTSELLER — next fall.
Banderas has his hand in other ventures as well, namely a bunch of scents for men and women with Spanish fragrance company Puig.
“The world of perfume is very close to fashion,” he told the school’s magazine 1Granary. “At Puig we have many people that are in the fashion world, and for them perfumes are an accessory. My team there realized that I didn't just like going around to promote the perfume, so they started exploring other aspects of me that were not public.”
In 2012, he stopped off at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival to show off red and whites he was helping produce under the Ribera del Duero wine label.
