A new plan for the Pliners

DONALD AND LISA PLINER
DONALD AND LISA PLINER

At last. We’re talking about a different Donald: Donald J Pliner.

Although the shoe designer sold his Star Island home and moved to Los Angeles, the footwear guru is heading back to Miami in the form of Coming Home, a gallery of home furnishings, unique objects and art designed and curated by himself and his wife, fellow designer Lisa Pliner.

The gallery, opening on Nov. 2 in Wynwood at 29 NW 24th St., will feature “carefully selected objects and home furnishings collected during or inspired by their two decades of world travels.”

The couple will also use the space for a series of dynamic cultural programming events to support their favorite causes and fellow artists from the Miami area and from around the world.

OH HAPPY DAY

As if Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade don’t have enough to celebrate. The semi-newlyweds are getting ready for Union to turn 43 on Oct. 29. Said Wade at his cover party on Friday night at The Fontainebleau’s Stripsteak restaurant: “There are slight surprises, but she tells me what she wants so she is not disappointed. I want her to have a great time.”

GETTING SPICY

Miami Dolphins player Earl Mitchell teamed up with Hennessy for an exclusive birthday celebration and influencer dinner Friday at Seaspice’s Modern Garden. The dinner, attended by Mitchell’s teammates, consisted of a five-course fine dining experience.

DRINK TO THAT

Congrats to The Broken Shaker for landing on the list of The World’s 50 Best Bar Awards 2015. The Miami Beach bar, at No. 14, is the highest placed U.S. bar outside of New York. Mod scientists and mixologists Elad Zvi and Gabe Orta traveled to London for the awards ceremony, where many creative cocktails were consumed.

STATE OF MIND

The Sunshine State may soon have a new, famous resident. Word is that mega movie star Tom Cruise is ready to leave Los Angeles and relocate to Florida. A source tells UsWeekly that Cruise “thinks all the people in Hollywood are fake” and the 53-year-old Scientologist wants to be closer to his church’s headquarters in Clearwater (fellow L. Ron Hubbard follower John Travolta has a home in Ocala).

FYI: Cruise recently listed his Beverly Hills mansion for $59 million.
