Nick Jonas has new album, new look

Surprise! Nick Jonas is no longer the baby faced pipsqueak you remember back when he was jamming with his older brothers.

Nick Jonas, 2014 edition, is a man now. See for yourself Sunday (cue the high pitched screaming) when MTV kicks off its Europe Music Awards with a blowout, live pre-party, from the Klipsch Amphitheater at Bayfront Park.

The show is being staged in Glasgow, Scotland, but the action goes down right here, with performances by Fifth Harmony and First Flight Home rapper Jake Miller. Another Nick — Cannon, aka the soon to be ex Mr. Mariah Carey — will play cohost with Miller, whose EP Lion Heart just dropped. Look out for Awkward’s Molly Tarlov hanging around, too.

Jonas is excited to move out of the family band’s shadow; the pop trio split in October of last year.

“It’s a big transition,” said the former Disney star in a recent interview with the Associated Press. “I am stepping into what is really like starting over, and that’s exhilarating but also really frightening.”

Now of legal age, Jonas is onto his next chapter, which includes a self-titled album, out Tuesday, and the much talked-about, Marky Mark-inspired crotch-grabbing photo shoot for Flaunt magazine last month.

The buff new image is just a piece of his career reboot. Jonas’ new music is also a departure from his purity ring, boy band days: On his new album he’s singing mostly of love and lust (perhaps a shout-out to beauty queen girlfriend, Olivia Culpo).
