Usher takes a meeting at Makoto

Usher had a Labor Day lunch meeting, party of eight, at Makoto in Bal Harbour.

LeBron James, in town for pre-training camp workouts, rented a house on Key Biscayne, outside of which a security guard remained firmly implanted. Said guard was AWOL when James was practicing basketball at the Key Biscayne Community Center.

Helio Castroneves spent Saturday night at Morton’s on Brickell, where general manager Steve Manzi got a picture with the speedster with a bottle of Dom Perignon. Castroneves was with two couples, celebrating the end of the Indy Racing season.

Martin Garrix took a break from spinning and stopped by Seaspice during his stay in Magic City over Labor Day weekend. The 19-year-old DJ arrived at the restaurant dressed in “boat chic attire” with four friends.

Miami Marlins baseballer Ichiro Suzuki was spotted Wednesday dining at Dolce Italian, Bravo’s “Best New Restaurant,” with his girlfriend and agent. The all-star slugger sat in one of the restaurant’s back banquettes while talking business with his agent.

James Murray from the truTV Show Impractical Jokers strolled in late Saturday to E11even Miami with a friend and group of girls. The reality star was overheard saying he was off from filming this weekend and had to check out “the club that everyone talks about.” He joined a table and partied in the pit until the wee hours of the morning.

Magic Johnson will speak Tuesday at Miami Dade charter school SLAM (Sports Leadership and Management) to discuss the importance of health and education in conjunction with Simply Healthcare. Students will also have an opportunity to see him do some drills on the basketball court.

From late nights at LIV to a lecture at Cornell: Nightlife mogul David Grutman will be in Ithaca, New York, Wednesday to speak at the Ivy League university’s School of Hotel Administration about marketing and the business of nightlife. “I’m honored to speak at Cornell University,” Grutman told us. “The opportunity to help inspire tomorrow’s hospitality leaders is a true privilege. I’m hoping to provide the students with guidance and insight into the competitive industry that they have chosen to engage.” Grutman will also be speaking at the University of Miami on Oct. 1 as part of the U’s Recess: Music & Ideas Festival.
