Leo & Mark’s energy adventure
Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo have teamed up in a bid to widen access to clean energy.
At a New York City community garden on Thursday, the movie stars launched “100%,” a campaign aimed at making energy from renewable sources available to everyone — and making it affordable.
DiCaprio has spent much of the last few years on environmental and animal conservation efforts. The actor said the clean energy movement was no longer about politics, but humanity.
“This is a grassroots people’s movement but the ambition of this movement is absolutely revolutionary. Clean energy grows local economies,” he told the crowd.
Ruffalo called the issue “serious.”
“This is really mankind’s greatest threat, and it should take some serious problem solving on all of our parts,” he said. “And we don’t really have to give up anything to do it. ... We will be collecting the sun and the wind that falls on us every single day.”
Don’t call me
So that speculation earlier this week that it was Charlize Theron who dumped Sean Penn? An insider told Us Weekly it’s true.
Apparently the Mad Max: Fury Road actress did that thing dates do to make you crazy: She stopped picking up her phone, in this case during the Cannes Film Festival last month.
“Charlize wasn’t responding to his calls and texts,” the source told Us. “She just cut it off.”
New challenge
Prince Harry formally ended his full-time military service in Britain’s army Friday, wrapping up a career in which he qualified as an Apache helicopter pilot and completed two tours of duty in Afghanistan.
The fifth in line to the British throne had revealed in March that he intended to end his service to take a more vigorous role in his charitable endeavors, particularly those in Africa. The 30-year-old Harry now will spend the summer working with the Zoological Society of London and with experts in wildlife protection in Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania and Botswana.
Officially a couple
Joe Jonas and rumored girlfriend Gigi Hadid may have made their first official public appearance on Thursday night, but People.com reports Joe’s mom Denise is still not sure where she stands on the relationship.
“I don’t know yet. I have to see,” Denise told reporters at the 2015 Father of the Year Awards to benefit the American Diabetes Association in Beverly Hills. “Check with me in a month.”
Joe Jonas, 25, and Hadid, 20, were “touchy-feely” during the evening, People reports. Also at the event: Joe’s dad Kevin and brother Nick.
