After a lengthy coronavirus fight, Miami’s Betty Davis back on weather duty at Local 10
Have you missed watching Local 10’s Betty Davis?
The WPLG chief meteorologist is back on hurricane duty after finally recovering from coronavirus, returning to work Monday, the station announced.
Davis has had a tough battle with COVID-19. She was first diagnosed in early July and was even briefly hospitalized.
The weather expert did her best to update viewers on her recovery, which was brutally slow.
“You wake up and you’re thinking, ‘This is it, I’m turning the corner,’ and then later that night you can barely keep your eyes open,” she said during a brief appearance from home late last month. “It’s been just a very odd illness to deal with.”
On Aug. 7, she said on Facebook she had finally tested negative for the highly contagious illness, which led to a lockdown in March.
“I’m still working my way back to total health and beyond thrilled to get out of quarantine,” she said in her post. “Hopefully, soon, I can move on from this mess and get back to something that resembles life as I knew it.”
With Laura and Marco and other storms likely on the way, Davis is sure to be busy.
“We are so happy to welcome Betty back today,” WPLG VP/News Director Bill Pohovey told the Miami Herald Monday morning. “She’s had a long, tough fight with coronavirus. Our employees and our viewers have been worried sick. Betty was determined to be back for the peak of the hurricane season. We are thrilled she is feeling well again.”
