Shaquille O’Neal’s son is dealing with a serious medical issue.

TMZ reports that Shareef O’Neal needs heart surgery.

The rising star on the UCLA basketball team says that he will be out “three to four months” recuperating.

The 18-year-old told TMZ reporter Van Lathan in a video interview that he kind of “felt funny” during training and told his coach. A doctor had him wear a heart monitor and had him press a button when the feeling came on.

Tests immediately revealed a heart problem.

“I forget the name,” he said. “I know it’s something serious, pretty risky.”

The upside: The condition was caught early.

Shareef seems to be taking the situation like a champ.

“A lot of people are asking if this is career ending. Nope.”

He admitted he was a “little down.”

“I felt like I was at the top of the game, then this happens. I’m just doing my best to focus on my health right now. I am just blessed that they found it.”

Shareef’s mom, Shaunie O’Neal, thanked Lathan for his story on Instagram. “We really appreciate you.”
