Conductor promises romantic Valentine’s Day concert

Didn’t make Valentine’s Day plans yet? Don’t beat yourself up. Go get some culture.

The Danish National Symphony Orchestra will be making a stop at the The Adrienne Arsht Center at 8 p.m. Saturday. Conductor Cristian Măcelaru promises an evening of romance thanks to heartbreaking pieces by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius.

“He was arguably the greatest violin concerto,” says Macelaru, who completed undergraduate studies in violin performance at the University of Miami. “He takes the listener through emotions like no other.”

As for the 33-year-old’s weekend plans, the father of two little ones (ages 2 and 4) is focusing on kid-friendly activities.

“I am delighted to have my family join me on the tour this time,” says Macelaru, who was born in Romania. “These days my kids dictate much of my interests, so we’ll likely go to to Jungle Island or the zoo. Still, finding that perfect cafe con leche is always at the top of my list.”

Tickets to the concert, $50 to $130, can be purchased through the box office by calling 305-949-6722, or at www.arshstcenter.org
