Wilde Lake by Laura Lippman was really masterful. That’s the word that keeps coming to mind for me when I think about it. I wasn’t surprised that I loved it, because a new Lippman book is an auto-buy for me, but I was impressed at how dynamic, dense and fearless it felt. It hits another level, which is saying a lot when talking about an author who’s published over 20 great books. I also really enjoyed The Passenger by Lisa Lutz, a thriller that manages to be fast-paced, funny, dangerous and thoughtful all at once. The kind of book that makes you cancel your plans because you can’t fathom putting it down to do anything else.”
