I’m currently reading Katia D. Ulysse’s Drifting, a gripping account of the contemporary Haitian-American experience. As a Haitian-Creole interpreter working many child support cases in family court, I’m often baffled by the refusal of some Haitian-American fathers to assume their responsibilities toward their children. I ponder the social and psychological forces that shape bad parenting. Frisner, in Drifting, is a character that captures the multi-dimensionality of an estranged father.”
