Alexandra Fuller cancels book fair appearance
If there is a Miami Book Fair — especially a fair with more than 600 authors — there are also cancellations.
Alexandra Fuller, who was scheduled to appear Tuesday Nov. 17 to discuss her memoir Leaving Before the Rains Come at an “Evenings With...” event, has canceled her appearance. Refunds have been made to online purchasers.
But if you were planning on spending that night at the fair — at Miami Dade College — don’t worry. There’s plenty to do. At 5 p.m., DJ Lolo takes over The Porch, and you can browse the offerings at Bookleggers’ mobile library/book exchange. At 7 p.m., you can help break the Guinness World Record for smallest poetry reading with O, Miami at The Swamp: Eight emerging poets in Jai-Alai Books’ new anthology will read their poems one at a time to one person at a time inside a specially made booth. Drinks will ensue. At 8 p.m., novelist Jeanette Winterson appears in the Chapman Conference Center to discuss The Gap of Time, her latest book based on Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale.
Other writers on the schedule who have canceled their appearances as of Nov. 10: Abdel Bari Atwan, Vendela Vida, Harrison Scott Key, Michael Koryta, Don Winslow, Bill Clegg, Jessica Hopper, Shea Serrano, Susan Herrmann Loomis, Celia Rowlson Hall, Mat Johnson, Nate Powell, Nina Ansary, Benjamin Percy, David Morris, Greg Grandin, Chris Belden, Riad Sattouf, Harold Holzer, Amara Lakhous and Jon Scieszka.
